Segmentation

Modified on Tue, 30 Jul, 2024 at 3:41 PM

You can classify the participants in your OW Voices community into different groups using “Segmentation”. The main advantage of this tool is that it makes it possible to limit the access of these groups to different activities and/or content.

The “Segmentation” function is only available for Administrator access.

For example, if your community will be made up of soft drink consumers and will have specific questions for those who only consume diet/zero soft drinks, you can create a specific segmentation for these participants so that they are the only ones to see activities related to diet/zero soft drinks.

Segmentation also allows specific information about participants to be added to the database. That is, if you want information such as the respondents' gender and age to be present in the database, it is interesting to add these categories as segments.

Recommendation: It is very important that the segmentations are created according to the purpose of your community, so you can guarantee that the collection of results will answer all your questions.

Create segmentation

To create a segmentation in your community, you must first go to the Admin > Community menu, where you will find the “Segmentation” option.  Para criar uma segmentação na sua comunidade, você deve primeiro ir até o menu Admin > Comunidade, lá você encontrará a opção "Segmentação".

You can then create all the segments, separating them with the “;” element. Following the example mentioned above, we would have two segments:

  • regular soft drinks; diet/zero soft drinks

These names can be changed later, and you can also deactivate a segment if you no longer need to use it.

Bear in mind that at this stage you are only creating the segments. Later, in each activity, you will have to select which segments to view and respond to. Learn more about accessing activities.

Inclusive Segmentation

The segments present in OW Voices are not exclusive. This means that a participant can take part in more than one of the segments created in their community.

An example of this would be selecting the “women” segment and the “age: 18 to 25” segment. This means that the activity will be available to any participants who belong to both the “women” segment and the “age: 18 to 25” segment. Therefore, women, regardless of age, and people aged 18 to 25, regardless of gender, will have access to this activity.

If your aim is to target activities at women aged 18 to 25, you'll need to create a specific segment (“Women aged 18 to 25”) for participants with this characteristic.

Segmenting participants

Before inviting respondents to your study, the segments must already be correctly created so that the registration link can be sent to the community according to the participant's segment. Here's how to add participants to your community.
