Slider

Modified on Mon, 19 Aug, 2024 at 1:11 PM

Sliding is a type of task that allows respondents to choose an answer option on a scale by sliding a point on the options bar.

The sliding question is particularly useful when you want to evaluate options on a scale and gradations. It's a great way to engage your audience with interactive text, emojis or a numerical scale.

Set up

To create any task, you must have Administrator or Moderator access. Using one of these accesses you must go to the activity's gear menu and click on "Edit Tasks". If you haven't yet created your first activity, you should do so before proceeding. Learn more about creating an activity here.

1. Choose "Slide" from the list of tasks.

2. Use the text box to write the question statement, instructions and any other information you deem necessary. Adjust the text formatting using the icons (bold, italics, background colors, text colors, alignment, etc

You can supplement your assignment statement with a video, photo or file. To do this, simply click on the "Add Media" button in the top right-hand corner of the text box and upload it.

3. You can also change the task (question) code using the rounded field next to the task list. The code of a task is important for identifying the question in the database and also for viewing the answers on the platform. OW Voices will always place the screen "T" followed by a natural number in ascending order for the task codes.

Remember that the answer option code cannot contain special characters, spaces or just the number 0.

4. Choose whether the dots will only contain text and numbers or also emojis. Click on "Emoji" to enable.

5. Add or delete points. Define the description of the points/answer options. If you have chosen to use Emojis, choose them from the list of options on the right-hand side of the screen.

6. If necessary, change the answer option codes (dots) using the rounded fields next to them. The answer option codes for a task are important for identifying and processing the answers in the database. OW Voices will always put natural numbers in ascending order for the answer option codes.

Remember that the answer option code cannot contain special characters, spaces or be just the number 0.

7.  You can add logic and conditions to your question to direct them to another one based on the answer given in the task.

Default → define which task the respondent will be redirected to after answering the current task. Here you can add a jump or even choose "finish". This option will only be applied if the respondent does not qualify for the other conditions specified in "If you answer".
If you answer → add a logical condition for the flow of your activity.

8.  Define the description of the comment box in the editor.

How will participants visualize this type of task?

Graphs and Tables

In the "Reports" menu, Administrators, Moderators and Observers can view graphs for all types of tasks. For tasks of the Slide type, a graph will be generated with the answer options (points) differentiated by color.

How will I view this type of task in the database?

For Slide tasks, the CSV/Excel export will display a column with the question text and the rows will display the answer option selected by the respondent. If the answer options are in the form of Emojis, they will be arranged in an illustrated way in the database.

For code exports, the lines will display the code that corresponds to the answer option the respondent selected. For exports using the answer label (text), the lines will display the exact name of the answer option. Remember that if the name of the answer choice is a number, the export will be a number (not necessarily the same as the answer code).

Remember this when reading your database: Empty cell → the question was not shown to the participant. Cell with only the number 0 → the participant did not select that answer option.
