A survey is a type of task that presents the participant with a list of predefined options from which they are asked to select one (single choice) or more (multiple choice) answers.
Surveys can be used to collect quantitative data and introduce target logic into your task based on the selection of answers.

Set up
To create any task, you must have Administrator or Moderator access. Using one of these accesses you must go to the activity's gear menu and click on “Edit Tasks”. If you haven't yet created your first activity, you should do so before proceeding. Learn more about creating an activity.
1. Choose “Survey” from the list of tasks.
2. Use the text box to write the question statement, instructions and any other information you deem necessary. Adjust the text formatting using the icons (bold, italics, background colors, text colors, alignment, etc).
You can supplement your assignment statement with a video, photo or file. To do this, simply click on the “Media” button in the top right-hand corner of the text box and upload it.
3. You can also change the task (question) code using the rounded field next to the task list. The code of a task is important for identifying the question in the database and also for viewing the answers on the platform. Ow Voices will always place the screen “T” followed by a natural number in ascending order for task codes.
Remember that the question code cannot contain special characters, spaces or just the number 0.
4. Define the description of the answer options. You can add more than one answer option more quickly by using the “Add Quickly” button.
5. Enable the “Other” option, which displays a field for participants to enter an answer other than those you have created. Click on “Other option” to create this response option.
6. Choose whether your Research task will be single or multiple answer. Click on “Single answer” to enable it.
7. Enable the “None” option, which acts exclusively, i.e. once selected, all other answer options will be deselected. Click on “None” to create this answer option.
7. You can add logic and conditions to your question to direct them to another one based on the answer given in the task.
Default → define which task the respondent will be redirected to after answering the current task. Here you can add a jump or even choose “finish”. This option will only be applied if the respondent does not qualify for the other conditions specified in “If you answer”.
If you answer → add a logical condition for the flow of your activity.
8. Define the description of the comments box in the editor.
How will the participants visualize this type of task?
This is an example of how participants visualize this type of task.
On mobile devices, we offer a different view to improve the user experience.
Graphs and Tables
In the “Reports” menu, Administrators, Moderators and Observers will be able to view graphs for all types of tasks. For tasks of the Survey type, a graph will be generated with the answer options differentiated by color.
The table below the graph will display the answers in absolute numbers and percentages.
How will I view this type of task in the database?
For Single Choice Survey tasks, the CSV/Excel export will display a column with the question text and the rows will display the answer option selected by the respondent. For Multiple Choice Survey tasks, the CSV/Excel export will display a column for each answer option and the rows will display whether or not the answer option was selected by the participant.
For code exports, the rows will display the code that corresponds to the answer option the respondent selected. For exports using the answer label (text), the lines will display the exact name of the answer option. Remember that if the name of the answer choice is a number, the export will be a number (not necessarily the same as the answer code).
Remember this when reading your database:
Empty cell → the question was not shown to the participant.
Cell with only the number 0 → the participant did not select that answer option.
